Γιώργος Σταύρου: Έτρεξε στο Athens Marathon εις μνήμη του αδερφού του

Ο Γιώργος Σταύρου δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά που  έτρεξε σε Μαραθώνιο εις μνήμη του αδερφού του, καθώς είχε τρέξει στο Μαραθώνιου της Λεμεσού το 2016 κατακτώντας μάλιστα την πρώτη θέση. Αυτή τη φορά επέλεξε να τρέξει στο Μαραθώνιο της Αθήνας , γεγονός που όπως μας ανέφερε ο ίδιος γι΄αυτόν ήταν μια εξωπραγματική εμπειρία.

Κάθε φορά που επιλέγει να τρέξει δεν έχει μόνο ως σκοπό να τιμήσει τον αδελφό του, αλλά να δημιουργεί συνάμα και ταμεία αλληλεγγύης για εισφορές από διάφορους χορηγούς, τα οποία προσφέρονται σε ιδρύματα για βοήθεια. Επομένως, σκοπός του από την διαδρομή που έτρεξε στην Αθήνα ήταν ένα ταμείο εισφοράς το οποίο θα διατεθεί αυτή τη φορά στο ίδρυμα “Παιδικό Χαμόγελο”.

Όσον αφορά τη συμμετοχή του σε επόμενους Μαραθώνιους μας βεβαίωσε ότι όσο θα βρίσκεται σε καλή σωματική κατάσταση πάντα θα τρέχει για την μνήμη του αδερφού του και θα συνεχίσει συνάμα το κοινωνικό του έργο όσο μπορεί να το κάνει.

Για το Μαραθώνιο που θα πραγματοποιηθεί αυτή την Κυριακή στη Λάρνακα ανέφερε ότι αν δεν είχε προγραμματισμένο να τρέξει στην Αθήνα σίγουρα θα συμμετείχε, ενώ του χρόνου  όπως είπε ίσως θα λάβει συμμετοχή και στης Λάρνακας.

Ως δικό του σχόλιο μας είπε χαρακτηριστικά ότι “Ο Μαραθώνιος είναι μια ατομική εμπειρία , ξεχωριστή, όχι για τον εαυτό μας, αλλά για ένα σκοπό που έχει ο καθένας. Δεν τρέχουμε μόνο σωματικά, αλλά και ψυχικά, διότι όταν χάνεται η σωματική δύναμη καθώς τρέχεις αυτό που απομένει είναι η ψυχική”.

Εμείς να ευχηθούμε στο Γιώργο να έχει καλή υγεία και  να συνεχίσει να προσφέρει στην κοινωνία και στον αθλητισμό.

It is during our darkest moments that we must aim to find and discover the light!! There is NO light at the end of the tunnel; but, the lights through the tunnel will be the ones to keep you going forward!

As I said on my last marathon, I will keep honouring our beloved brother Dimitri Stavrou. I will keep him alive for the rest of my life. What happened on the 12th of November it was beyond my imagination! At 32km….My body was aching and complaining that there is no justifiable reason to continue…I cried…I stumbled…Ι stopped…Ι kneeled down to the ground…I cried again…The pain was unbearable…And then, our Spirit called and came together…The only resource which fortunately functions independently of logic!! That was the only time I felt you Bro…the time that I was struggling while being on the edge of quitting and you WERE THERE Once Again…I cried again thinking that everything was just a lie but it was not…I was going to honour you again in the best possible way because you deserve to be Alive! That was my true moment of my race, which enlighten me to tighten up all my feelings and achieve my main goal I had already planned; that is, To Honour You!!

4 hours and 36 minutes honoring you in one of the toughest marathons in the world; Athens Authentic Marathon where history is brought to life and a story of the triumph of the body over the mind!

The messages and the massive support I received before and after the marathon were also one of the reasons that encouraged me to head to the finish line at the well-known Panathenaic Stadium, one of the main historic attractions of Athens. I deeply want to thank each and everyone of you! I truly considered myself the luckiest man on earth and without you all God Knows where I would have been today! Thank you once again!

I have many people to thank. The best moment you will ever have in your life is when you smile from your heart with someone you really care for; your family! I am grateful for having each and everyone by my side while giving me strength, believing in me and giving me endless and unconditional love.

All my life I knew that I am a rich man because I had you. So, I would like to deeply thank my lovely family, my mum, mysister,my dad, my uncles, my aunties,mu grandma, my friends, all those who travelled to Athens to support me with their positive energy as well as all those who were in Cyprus waiting for me impatiently to finish the marathon. Your irreplaceable heartiness, LOVE and understanding are the sources of my strength. My heartfelt thankfulness for each and every one will be endless!

Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious the time is you have to spend, whether it’s at work, friends or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored!
